Te Pa Chardonnay 2017 (750ml) SeysselThe fruit for this Chardonnay was sourced from the St Leonard's Vineyard in Wairau Valley. Hand picked and then whole bunch pressed to barrel 40% of which is new barrels. These barrels tend to have long, light toasting profiles, which integrate perfectly with the fruit. The wine was left on the lees for maturation, with partial malolactic fermentation (around 50%) kicking off in spring. This Chardonnay was then blended and filtered prior to bottling.

Barrel fermented an aged in 228-liter French Oak barrel for 12 months with regular stirrings of the lees

which is stone fruit and pineapple with a backbone of lemon and lime

Strong torrefaction oak notes sweeten the aromas of black raspberry

A slight sweetness tempers its liveliness

This wine shows a hint of initial austerity before opening out with rich fruits and structure

but the flavor is still here: figs and honey
